TranSystems’ Boston office, located in the heart of downtown, provides transportation engineering services on highway, bridge and rail projects throughout New England and across the country. The Boston office Highway & Traffic team works on a wide variety of projects: intersection designs that incorporate traffic signals and roundabouts; roadway corridor and bridge rehabilitation projects that enhance bicycle and pedestrian accommodations and introduce highway safety measures; interchange reconstructions that modernize traffic operations.


The Boston office has an immediate opening for a Civil Transportation Engineer with 2 - 5 years of experience. This candidate will work both independently and with project teams on a wide variety of tasks with the Highway & Traffic team including designing roadway alignments and profiles, developing roadway corridors and grading plans, as well as preparing design plans and participating in client meetings.


General Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and/or review design calculations.
  2. Research different design options, code requirements and present findings.
  3. Prepare and/or review reports, contract drawings and specifications.
  4. Prepare and/or review construction cost estimates.
  5. Coordinate with Project Manager as to the general results expected for tasks.
  6. Communicate frequently with Project Manager, Supervisor, and project team members.
  7. Keep Project Manager informed of workload, provide updates on project progress.
  8. Communicate with, and attend meetings with: clients, project team firms (subconsultants), and other project stakeholders.
  9. Participate in business development activities including information gathering, and preliminary design (for design-build pursuits).
  10. Ensure accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  11. Broaden and maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a 4-yr accredited college or university.
  • Experience using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
  • Experience with engineering design packages such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Knowledge of engineering civil design packages such as AutoCAD Civil3D, Microstation InRoads, Microstation Geopak, and/or Microstation OpenRoads.
  • No relocation assistance provided.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with MassDOT and other local transportation agencies.
  • Experience working with engineering civil design packages such as AutoCAD Civil3D, Microstation InRoads, Microstation Geopak, and/or Microstation OpenRoads.
  • EIT Certification.
