PHILADELPHIA OFFICE BRIDGE INSPECTION TEAM LEADER

The Philadelphia office seeks a Structural/Bridge Engineer to join our established transportation practice as a Team Leader for Bridge Inspections. In this role you will function as the lead inspector supervising the work of less experienced engineers and mentor them as you help to develop their technical and inter-personal skills. Depending on level of experience, you may also serve as the Project Manager of various inspection contracts. Your responsibilities will include coordinating all aspects of the inspection, writing/reviewing inspection reports, load rating preparation/reviewing, and preparing fee proposals for inspection assignments. You may also work with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects, including roadway, traffic, rail, site, and public transit.

 

You will be mentored by our senior staff, and have the opportunity to engage and assist with new project pursuits, including Qualifications and Technical Proposal preparation, Scope of Service and Fee Proposal development, and networking opportunities through professional society events.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a 4-yr accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related bridge inspection experience
  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania.
  • Successful completion of PennDOT’s Bridge Safety Inspector Certification Course and are current on PennDOT’s Bridge Inspection Refresher Course.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), and experience with PennDOT Inspection Programs (iForms and BMS2 Web) and Design and Rating programs, familiar with engineering design packages such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • No relocation assistance provided.
  • Available to provide own transportation

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Successful completion of NHI Course 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges, and are current on NHI Course 130053A Bridge Inspection Refresher Training (if applicable)
  • Successful completion of NHI Course 130078 Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges.

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Lead team to perform site inspections of existing bridges to determine conditions.
  2. Lead team to perform site inspections of bridge construction projects to evaluate conformance with contract plans and specifications.
  3. Prepare or preferably direct and review the preparation and modification of inspection reports, and load ratings.
  4. Coordinate multiple inspections on multiple inspection sites as part of an overall program.
  5. Prepare or preferably direct the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules and designs for bridge rehabilitation or design projects.
  6. Receive instructions from Senior Project Managers as to the general results expected or depending on level of experience serve as the Project Manager.
  7. Review project inspections and/or design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.
  8. Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
  9. Be responsible for accuracy of engineering inspections and design and plan preparation, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  10. Show understanding of team management, develop project scope of work, estimate manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules and track project progress.
  11. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  12. Perform as a staff advisor and consultant to technical specialty.
  13. Available to provide own transportation if required for project

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.

 

Travel Requirements:  Travel anticipated. Level based on project needs.
